Harry Styles – Harry’s House

Okay, so I feel like I couldn’t kick off my first Tearaway Weekly Music Haul without mentioning that Mr Harry Styles much-anticipated album Harry’s House is out today! I’m sure many of you would have seen the viral videos of Harry performing at Coachella and now that Harry’s going to be touching down in Auckland next year for a show at Mt Smart Stadium, the excitement is at an all-time high. ‘As It Was’ has already been playing on repeat, and now we get to spin the rest of the 13-track-record (Southern Hemisphere perks is we got this release first!)

A.R.T – Runner Up

You may recognise the talented ladies behind A.R.T from their journey on the television show ‘Popstars’ last year, they have been working away on music and now the group has finally given us a new tune! Runner Up is a catchy vibey track that has relatable lyrics mixed in that include ‘just didn’t want to be the runner up’. We spoke to the girls recently who said “we wanted to have a feel-good vibe to the production so that our listeners can dance those Runner Up blues away”. Catch me dancing into the weekend…

Alayna – So We Remain

Local talented musician Alayna has just released So We Remain, the self-confessed ‘aftermath’ of her ‘bravado and fiery flame’ recent tune Just So You Won’t Be Alone. Alayna’s got this silky sounding tone that is so soft but beautiful at the same time. This was a two-part release but we can look forward to more soon as Alayna works away on her debut full-studio length album. For now you can enjoy So We Remain.

5 Seconds of Summer – Me, Myself and I

The 5 Seconds of Summer lads are back with a new tune, Me, Myself and I and it gives fans a bit of a taste of what to expect for their just-announced upcoming album 5SOS5 which is due out later in the year. It’s awesome to see and hear how 5 Seconds of Summer’s sound has evolved while still having all the good bits – yes all the riffs and sing-a-long moments you could want are in there. It’s also the sort of track I can envision would go down well live so perhaps a long-overdue NZ tour return boys?

Mazbou Q – Go and Be Free

Local multi-talented creative Mazbou Q (who’s been dubbed ‘The Rap Scientist’ on TikTok) has just dropped Go and Be Free, a brass-heavy hip-hop track for you to digest on this fine Friday. This new release follows his 2021 album and has references to his Nigerian heritage. “Most of us know what it is like to say goodbye when we really don’t want to. The song is to remind people that although it hurts, there’s always an opportunity to find the beauty in it.”

Bonus: Maisie Peters – Cate’s Brother

I’ve called this a bonus one because the song and its video weren’t released this past week but I have had it on repeat so here I am shouting it out! First of all, UK singer-songwriter Maisie Peters (who’s currently touring stadiums with her label boss Ed Sheeran) has utilised social media so incredibly well this past month, as she has hyped and teased this song so much that people were begging for her to release it (a smart cookie) and second of all, the song is just so damn catchy – I’m looking forward to hearing what’s next and perhaps ol’ mate Ed may think about bringing her along to the NZ tour next year…
