Among many awards of note Whitecliffe has won the Eden Arts Art Schools Award in 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015 and students have won the Australasian Graduate of the Year in Fashion Design and in Visual Communication.
As the premier private arts and design school in New Zealand, Whitecliffe provides an innovative and rewarding environment with low student-to-lecturer ratios that enable lecturers to focus on the individual needs of students. Independence, creativity and risk-taking are strongly encouraged within Whitecliffe programmes from certificate to postgraduate level.
All programmes are taught by practising artists, designers, educators and researchers who have a passion for art and teaching that inspires and encourages creativity. As well as developing Individual creative talents, students learn critical thinking, research, communication and presentation skills. The vibrant student community of 480 students is exposed to the contemporary arts and design world through exhibitions, international guests and industry professionals.
The 18 week Certificate in Arts and Design and the Certificate in Digital Media and Design are designed to assist students seeking to meet requirements for entry into degree level study, and for those who would like to develop their creative skills and complete a professional portfolio. Both programmes have February and July intakes each year. No prior experience with art or design is required.
The Bachelor of Fine Arts programme is offered across four majors – FINE ARTS, PHOTO MEDIA, FASHION DESIGN and GRAPHIC DESIGN.
While all BFA programmes are studio based they also include papers in Business Studies, Management Studies, Public Relations and Arts Marketing maximising the acquisition of transferrable skills and post-study career outcomes for our students.
The Postgraduate suite of programmes are all low-residency enabling students to continue working while studying include Postgraduate Diplomas in Arts Management and in Arts Therapy and Masters degrees in Fine Arts, Arts Management and Arts Therapy.
