Guy Williams – Started from the Top
By HAZEL REID
You’ll know Guy Williams as the ‘lanky giant’ (his words not mine!) who is all over the radio and TV airwaves. He fancies himself a bit of a stand-up comedian and he proved that last night at his solo comedy show.
Guy jokes about his ‘white privilege’ upbringing and speaks on heated subjects like the TPPA and the flag referendum. He’s a past winner of the Billy T Award and was once voted TV Guide’s Funniest Person, so you would expect to LOL at his show and everyone definitely did. The small room at the Montecristo was soon filled with loud laughter.
I enjoyed Guy Williams’ show, he’s more than just a voice behind the awkward jokes on the show he co-hosts on The Edge with Sharyn Casey and Clint Roberts. He’s also more than the side dude to TV3’s Jono and Ben’s bromance. Guy is sharp and witty and I appreciate that he went old-school for part of the show with a PowerPoint-esque presentation!
We spoke to Guy pre-show about crying during musicals, his infamous posters, his favourite thing about being a comedian and what to expect from his show.
Catch Guy Williams until the 8th of May at Montecristo as part of the 2016 NZ International Comedy Festival powered by Flick Electric Co. For the full line-up of shows in the Festival and tickets head to comedyfestival.co.nzSHARE THIS POST...
