Armageddon Expo is back in Auckland this long weekend, taking over the ASB Showgrounds with all things gaming, cosplay and some of the biggest international stars. After spending the day at the Expo on Saturday, we rounded up five of our highlights at Armageddon Expo.

1. The International Guests

This years Auckland Expo was host to an impressive array of international guests including Harry Potters Katie Leung, Charmeds Shannen Doherty, Christina Ricci of The Addams Family, Smallvilles Michael Skanks and Anna Hopkins of Shadowhunters. All of the guests were available for photo sessions and autograph sessions each day, so you could cement the memories of your experience of meeting some of your favourite film & TV stars (and brag about it to your friends, ha!)

2. Pop Culture Galore

The expo halls were jam-packed of everything pop culture and memorabilia. I honestly dont think Ive ever seen that many Pop! Vinyls in all my lifeit was literally a scene out of a collectors dream! There were big specials to be nabbed by expo goers – hot tip: PopStop, EB Games and MightyApe (who had exclusive Marvel Pop!) had some great deals, but Skys Channel 5 stepped it up with their new giant friends

3. Openside Live

Adding another level to what was already a packed Armageddon Expo, Openside joined the party and performed a live set each afternoon to celebrate the release of their new music, Episode One: Character Flaws. They also created a visual accompaniment to the songs in the form of their own comic book which they were giving out for free with a signing every day.

4. Cosplay, Cosplay, Cosplay

I was so impressed by the strong cosplay this year. While Cosplay have their own stage, parades and competitions, I was in awe while just walking around the halls at the level of insane detailing, creative talent and commitment (as it was a very hot sunny day) that all of these people had, plus some of them really got into character! Everywhere you looked was a visual feast.

It was Cosplay galore everywhere

5. Plenty of Entertainment

If all of what I’ve mentioned so far wasn’t enticing enough, Armageddon also gave punters the opportunity to get up-close-and-personal with their favourites and the opportunity to ask them questions directly at a variety of panels throughout the day, across two stages, with live wrestling ending each day.
