Global superstar P!nk is jetting into Auckland next week (after her Dunedin show this Saturday) for a massive six shows at Spark Arena. The star returns after a 10-year tour hiatus in New Zealand.

Not only can kiwis get up close and see P!nk live, The Dance Corner and Live Nation have got a very special evening with four of her dancers on Monday (3rd) ahead of the Auckland shows.

Madelyne Spang, Jeremy Hudson, Reina Hidalgo and Khasan Brailsford will all be running exclusive sessions, using their impressive backgrounds to empower those in attendance.

We caught up with Korrin Laker from The Dance Corner studio to chat about putting this workshop together where anyone can learn from world-class performers.

Korrin Laker from The Dance Corner

How did the workshop with 4 of P!nk’s dancers come about?

I saw that two of the dancers were holding a workshop in Dunedin and I thought it would be an amazing experience to have one here in Auckland as well. We are so lucky to have these four dance role models here in New Zealand. Its so important to grab hold of these opportunities. I was lucky enough to work with Live Nation to make it all happen.

What do you hope people could take away from the workshop, besides learning from some of the best in the field?

These four dancers have danced professionally all around the world. They have experience dancing for the best, including Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and of course, P!nk. They have also been involved in many dance films and television series. Meeting the dancers, learning their choreography and listening to their stories will be so inspiring and motivating for young dancers here in New Zealand, especially the dancers who are looking at having a career in dance.

Tell us about founding your own studio, The Dance Corner in Maraetai?

I have danced all my life and have taught dance since I was 14. When I moved to Maraetai, I became pregnant with my first child. As there were no dance classes here in Maraetai, I decided to start my own dance studio to ensure my daughter was able to dance. Now it has been seven years and our studio has grown into a wonderful dance community. I am so proud of what it has become.

You teach all different genres throughout the week at The Dance Corner, do you have a favourite?

My favourite would definitely be Contemporary as it is very expressive and connects the mind and body. It also uses the technique and skills for Ballet and Jazz.

How did you get your start in the performing arts industry?

I come from a family of dancers. My Great Nana taught ballroom where my nana and mother danced. From the age of four, I spent my life in a dance studio learning Jazz, Tap, Hip-hop, Lyrical, Musical Theatre and much more. Its in my blood and its incredible to now see the passion in my children.

What does an average day look like for you?

I am also a Primary School teacher which takes up a lot of my day. After school, I have a group of incredible teachers that teach most of the classes at The Dance Corner. I teach our older dancers and our tap classes and I visit other classes as much as I can.

Best advice youve ever been given?

Don’t lose your passion or the fighter that’s inside you.

What’s the next thing youd love to tick off your bucket list?

I would love to meet P!nk! Her music is such an inspiration and she has had a great influence on my dance career and in my life.
