Events are now back in full swing and with the winter season approaching, there are a lot of indoor gigs to get amongst. We’ve rounded up a few highlights for June including international act Lime Cordiale’s return, Tuning Fork’s Birthday celebration shows, lots on offer for this year’s Doc Edge Film Festival and local comedian Tom Sainsbury’s nationwide tour.

Tuning Fork’s Birthday

It may be the Tuning Fork’s birthday but they’re the ones giving out the presents in the form of a jam-packed week of all-ages shows! The line-up from the 1st to the 6th includes Tiny Ruins with Finn Andrews, comedy trio Fricken Dangerous Bro, local acts There’s a Tuesday & Daffodils and Methyl Ethel. Later in the month Park Rd will take the Tuning Fork stage on the 11th with their new EP release show, followed by Great Gable on the 16th. Theia’s TE KAAHU project will put on a special Matariki show on the 24th with Niko Walters rescheduled album release show with special guest AACACIA rounding out the month on the 25th.

Lime Cordiale

Lime Cordiale are finally able to bring their 14 Steps To A Better You tour to NZ this month after multiple pandemic-related postponements. Oli Leimbach from the band expressed previously for fans to hold on during all the changes as “NZ is our first overseas priority” and they weren’t fooling around – NZ gets this show run before they head out worldwide. Lime Cordiale will be in Wellington on the 5th, with Christchurch’s Town Hall on the 7th before two shows at Auckland’s Powerstation on the 8th & 9th.

Doc Edge Film Festival

The Documentary Edge International Film Festival makes its return this June with a world-class hybrid programme. A whopping 113 feature-length and short films are included in the line-up this year, so there will be something for everyone! Doc Edge’s Virtual Cinema will be running 17 feature films and all 39 short films online making the festival accessible to audiences nationwide. There will also be many local and international debuts and Q&A sessions including the World Premiere of NZ film Behind The Mask, Only I Can Hear’s international premiere and short film Scope showcasing local teen creatives. Check out the full programme on their website.

Armageddon Expo

Armageddon Expo is making a special return to Auckland, this time for a winter event on the weekend of the 10th to the 12th and it will feature the biggest ESports Open (it has $20,000 in prizes!) that NZ has ever seen. This event will also host the return of in-person guests including Supernatural’s Osric Chau, Sonic The Hedgehog’s Colleen O’Shaughnessey and Viva La Dirt League alongside a variety of TV and film guests beaming in virtually. Armageddon Expo’s 100th event will bring their signature pop-culture flair to town – a perfect excuse to explore their indoor activities during this chilly winter season and get your geek on!

Tom Sainsbury

Local comedian, Snack Masters TV host and that ‘snapchat dude’ as his show title says is taking his brand new funny show nationwide! Tom Sainsbury will be touring in Auckland, Tauranga, Canterbury, Nelson, Invercargill, Dunedin, Oamaru, Marlborough, Hawke’s Bay and Hamilton this month with something that is turned into a bit of a challenge for Tom to leave ‘no stone unturned in his quest to poke fun at New Zillunders’. Tickets are available from Eventfinda.

Later this month Matariki celebrations will kick off – keep an eye out for our Matariki highlights piece coming soon!
