On Monday 23rd May, New Plymouth’s TSB Showplace hosted the long awaited return of Stage Challenge’s stellar nationwide tour and we can confirm Taranaki did not disappoint!
We all know that Taranaki is full of heartland culture and proud values, which is why Taranaki’s students made such a dynamic impact when they took to the Stage Challenge stage last week!
Five incredible Taranaki schools shed light on important issues and themes, with Hawera High School crowned well deserved winners in the Open Division with their performance No More Borders.
The judges were certainly impressed with Hawera High, as acclaimed design judge Ged Guy added: “Hawera had an excellent use of costumes to create structural impact. The set use was very clever and provided contrast, this was very effective”.
Taranaki has no shortage of creative talent, as Opunake High School and Sacred Heart Girls’ College all made sure the audience left with thought provoking themes in mind, combined with an entertainment overload!
Event Manager Hazel Reid supported this adding: “New Plymouth put on a brilliant night here at TSB Showplace where all the schools showcased their creativity and innovation. You can see all the hard work and determination that goes into their performances”.
Everyone agrees it’s been too long since Stage Challenge was last in New Plymouth as Taranaki students yet again delivered a night of pure entertainment and non-stop flare!
This year, Taranaki students conquered the Stage with their excitement and creativity. Now it’s the rest of the North Island’s turn, as Stage Challenge continues its hot pursuit up the country!
