Listening to music is a lot like dinner: sometimes you want fine dining and sometimes you’re happy for fish and chips from down the road. It’s hard to not have a craving for terrible music every once and a while, stuff that’s super repetitive or easy to dance to when you’re cleaning your room. If you’re in the mood for the best of the worst, 2015 has you covered.

Mark Ronson – Uptown Funk

More than any other song on the list, Uptown Funk makes you feel cool. Singing it with your friends is fun and although it may look ridiculous, the impromptu dancing it spurs is perfect for a jam with friends.

Silento – Watch Me (Whip/ Nae Nae)

Whether you loved it or hated it, people got obsessed with the Nae Nae everywhere. It’s an earworm unlike any other song from 2015. Once you’ve heard it, it’s stuck in your brain for weeks. The only way to get it out, I’ve found, is to listen to relics like Gangnam Style.

WALK THE MOON – Shut Up and Dance

Shut Up and Dance is just so stupid and great. The music video tells it all for this song. Everyone knows it’s silly, but it’s a fun time anyway. The song is fast paced and happy, which means that even though it’s a bit dumb it’s great to hear.

Avicii – Waiting for Love

In a broad sense, everyone can relate to this song. Pushing through the week can be hard, but listening to this makes it a little bit easier.

Rachel Platten – Fight Song

There’s nothing like a pop song that pulls at the heart strings. Even though it is repetitive and a little tacky, you can’t help but like singing along guiltily.

Drake – Hotline Bling

This song is really easy to sing along to, and who doesn’t love Drake. Just like the Nae Nae, it’s an earworm, but nice and slow.

Years & Years – King

King is a song to revitalise yourself during study time. It’s purpose built to give you the energy to continue on your day. It’s just as much classic pop as every other song on the list, but I particularly like to listen to it when I’m bored of my exams.

The Weeknd – Can’t Feel My Face

I can’t help but get active with this song. The beat, the lyrics and the mood of the song all make it impossible not to groove along.

Major Lazer & DJ Snake (feat. MO) – Lean On

This song is classic party pop. The tune is simple, catchy and upbeat. Somehow it never fails to get people to dance when they’re listening, which makes its simplicity worth it.

One Direction – Drag Me Down

This is a power song. It’s perfect for being uplifted or feeling powerful, and listening to it on a day when things aren’t the best is surprisingly helpful.
