A mask,

to conceal the truths

of past,

present and

future.

Secrets hidden beneath

to protect his face

from the oil that could

drip

drip

drip

and stain his skin.

All to protect

him

from the breath

that would rattle

and disrupt.

He, the mask,

creates a barrier

to rebel against the night’s force,

and conceal

the day’s wounds.
