The Reel Earth environmental film festival, based in Palmerston North, will take place in May 2017. An important part of it is the Young Filmmakers Award, for which they accept films that promote conservation, sustainability or other environmental issues. This award is open to individual young filmmakers and filmmaking groups under 23. Please note that the closing date for submissions was extended to March 31 2017.
Whether you work alone, with friends, or with a teacher or adult filmmaker, if you are under 23 and have made a film then this award is for you. Comedy, horror, drama, documentary, music video, animation, sci-fi, fantasy, every genre is accepted, but don’t forget it’s all about the environment!
Reel Earth accepts movies that are up to 10 minutes in length, inclusive of title and end credits. You must include a digital still image, synopsis and completed entry form. There are three main categories:

- Tertiary – 19 to 23 years old
Prizes are awarded by a jury of industry professionals, filmmakers, environmentalists and educators. All submitted films will be screened at the Reel Earth environmental film festival in May 2017.
