Leading on from the thriller Cross My Heart, Hope to Die is yet another of Patterson’s gripping novels, and the plot had me glued to my seat. After living so much of his life in constant danger, all Alex wants to do is protect his family in any way he possibly can. So when they are all mysteriously kidnapped, his house bugged and his every word and movement monitored by the offender, it takes all of Alex’s skill and knowledge to try and outsmart the kidnapper before it’s too late.

Forced to cater to every demand of the kidnapper, Alex attempts to unravel the mystery, discover who the madman ‘Mulch’ is, and rescue his family. But not everything is quite as it seems.

I enjoy the way Patterson so intricately writes and develops his stories; it makes for a captivating read that is both interesting and exciting the entire time. Just when you think you know what's happening, when you've figured out the perpetrator, a plot twist occurs and you realise that you are, in fact, wrong.

This is a book I would definitely recommend to Alex Cross lovers; it will only fuel your love for his writing. If you  enjoy crime-solving mysteries, or have not yet discovered this series, now is your chance!
