Petrol heads and gadget lovers rejoice, Big Boys Toys has once again come to Auckland. I'll be honest, it has been a LONG time since I've been, but this year has promised to be better than ever, so I went off to the VIP launch to have a little look around.
I got inside and it felt sort of like a bogan art exhibition, except instead of paintings there were unbelievably expensive and impressive vehicles.
First I had a look at some of the mopeds and motorcycles from Harley Davidson, Suzuki and Yamaha, amongst others. The bikes ranged from smaller models I imagined were for kids, through to Hagrid-sized bikes, with Nikki Minaj rears to match.
The first reveal was a 2016 Yamaha YXZ 1000R, but this was outdone with the reveal of a Honda RC213V MotoGP bike. This one blew me away. It was the winner of 700 Honda World Grand Prix, not to mention the fact it has a top speed of 350km hour. And yes, you read that right.
Next I went outside to watch a barred-up Suzuki do a forward roll, with TV3s producer of Stories inside. This was a very entertaining little break, but I suspect that had to do with the expletives and screaming coming from inside the car.
We went inside again and a beautiful yellow 2016 Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 SV was revealed. It is a beast of a car, valued at over $700,000. It has 750 HP and goes 0-100 in 2.8 seconds.
A 'Bond Edition' Aston Martin DB9 GTT was also unveiled in front of a Spectre backdrop whilst the James Bond theme played over the speakers, completely immersing me in the moment. Wow. It genuinely felt like I was in the movies. Only 150 of these elegant cars have been made, and they are topped off with a special James Bond plaque inside, to truly authenticate the car.
Christmas is coming around the corner, and although it is unrealistic, I know what will be on the top of my list. Go check out Big Boys Toys today at ASB Showgrounds Greenlane, to see what I saw, plus stuff I didn't see, like a 3D printer, a real hoverboard (A REAL WORKING FREAKING HOVERBOARD!!!) and stunts galore!
