Every successful festival has a range of delicious foods. Auckland City Limits is this weekend and we thought it would be cool to showcase some of the world class eats you can get there when you get a bit peckish.

Auckland City Limits (ACL) will fuse the best elements of Austin’s premier festival with a New Zealand flavour to create an event that will celebrate the spirit and heritage of Auckland.

ACL has an area called ‘Auckland Eats’, where the line-up was chosen personally by acclaimed local chef Che Barrington (Blue Breeze Inn, Woodpecker Hill).

Che Barrington

Che’s created a brand new kind of fusion, combining South East Asian flavours with wood-smoked Texan BBQ. The palate-tingling result is smoky, slow-roasted, fall-apart meats paired with fresh and tangy herbs such as Vietnamese mint, perilla, ginger, galangal, coriander and lemongrass. Che’s exquisite, melt-in-your-mouth BBQ packs all the lip-smacking punch of Asian street food, and won Woodpecker Hill the 2015 Outstanding New Venue award from the Lewisham Foundation.

Other chefs on the bill are:

Javier Carmona – Beirut

Beirut brings together a blend of ingredients from the cultures that make up the Middle East. From Lebanon and Israel right through to East Africa and Morocco, the ingredients are handmade from scratch. This includes the sujuk and merguez sausage, dry aged basturma beef, labna cured yoghurt, bric pastry, and freshly baked bread.

Dariush Lolaiy – Cazador

Dariush hunts, butchers, cooks and serves wild fare the same way that his father, founder of Cazador, has done since 1987. The menu includes wild meat, offal and sub-prime cuts all served amongst the freshest seasonal produce on offer. Cazador recently won Best Specialty Restaurant and two Chefs Hats at the Cuisine Good Food Awards, as well as Runner-Up Best Neighborhood Restaurant in the Metro Top 50 Best Restaurant awards.

Kyle Street – Federal Deli

Chef Kyle Street’s menu is heavily inspired by Americana and street food. Street will bring his contemporary take on fast food, that should provide the perfect form of sustenance for Auckland City Limits punters.

Chef Tom Hishon – Orphans Kitchen

Orphans Kitchen is a casual space with a simple interior that feels a little like a dining hall. Tom is a fine-dining chef who is passionate about creating affordable dishes with simple ingredients. He uses veges like swedes and cauliflower, and more unusual types and cuts of meat like wild boar, ox cheek and tuna belly in dishes that are flavoursome and comforting.

A host of regular festival food classics will also be spread across the site, including Best Ugly Bagels, Taco Loco, Brooklyn Dogs, One Love and the timeless White Lady.

Tearaway will be at Auckland City Limits this weekend checking out the music, the fashion and the food. If you see Jess or Elliot, come and say hi and get your photo taken!
