YouTube fans were in for a treat on Saturday night at Auckland’s Bruce Mason Centre. Some of YouTube’s best had come down under to meet and perform for their Kiwi fans.
The Amplify Live Tour included Tyler Oakley, Kian Lawley, JC Caylen, Andrea Russett, Trevor Moran, Jamie Curry (Jamie’s World), Tyde Levi, Kurt Coleman and the host, Ben J. Pierce.
Over the duration of the two-hour show, these YouTube stars graced the stage where different challenges, activities and total mayhem ensued. It was as if you were watching them film one of their amazing videos and you were the live audience.
Tyde Levi kicked off the show in style – with an epic DJ mash-up which included his brother’s song, Troye Sivan’s WILD – and let me tell you, the crowd got wild! Talk about getting the party started.
The fun started when Andrea Russett burst out onto the stage only to be followed by fellow YouTuber Jamie Curry to have an epic ‘Heads Up’ battle with two audience members. Russett won only by a small margin when it went to crowd vote.
In true Kurt Coleman fashion, when host Ben announced his arrival, he arrived on stage via a strut through the audience right onto the red carpet where his ‘paparazzi’ fans were awaiting him. Kurt left the audience with this positive advice, “remove the word can’t from your vocabulary and just be yourself.”
It wouldn’t be a New Zealand show without featuring some of our local internet talent. Kris Fox, Liam McEwan, Caito Potatoe and Kasper Tait joined the fun onstage with a ‘Lip Sync Battle’. Kris’ version of Single Ladies and Liam’s Oops I Did It Again were my favourite!
The multi-talented Trevor Moran treated the crowd to an epic solo performance of his tunes including Echo and Got Me Feelin’ Like. The YouTuber who regularly uploads challenge videos also released his EP ‘Alive’ earlier this year.
Kian Lawley and JC Caylen are known to their millions of fans as ‘Kian&JC’ and for their pranks and challenges with fellow YouTubers. They bought their pranking to the stage, so of course in classic Kian & JC style there were punishments for losing – including lots of water in the face. They even played a prank on the crowd that involved confetti and water guns! These guys are awesome.
The King of YouTube, Mr. Tyler Oakley himself, closed the show’s segments on a big red couch reading a fanfic story – with a twist. The audience helped Tyler fill in the blanks and it ended up being a steamy fiction involving fellow Amplify Live talent – JC Caylen!
The show finished the same way it began, with Tyde Levi hitting the DJ decks, spinning the party out in style while the Amplify Live line-up joined him on stage to dance along with the audience.
Amplify Live was an awesome show and the perfect way to kick off the holidays. There was also the opportunity to upgrade to meet and greets with your favourites, get a goodie bag and receive Rimmel London makeovers in the Amplify Playground!
We can’t wait until it comes around next year but if that’s too long to wait – never fear, the team announced that MadCon will be coming to NZ in July bringing more of your favourite internet stars!
